Living History
For everything from international re-enactments of the battle of Hastings involving thousands of people from all over Europe to visits to primary schools in Peebles! One of the original re-enactment societies, members of the Vikings portray most of the ethnic groups found in Europe during the 9th, 10th and 11th Centuries - not just the Scandinavian ones.
If you would like to bring your event to life using the services of skilled re-enactors and historical interpreters contact "The Vikings". What follows are examples of my personal involvement, and is not an official vikings web page.
When I visited Schools in Southampton I arrived in the costume and persona of a trader. This meant that I was able to talk generally about the interaction between the cultures that influenced the British Isles at the time. It also tied in with Southampton's history as a trading post and royal residence. This information was presented in the form of an interactive story telling session, with dressing up.
I also brought a collection of replica artifacts that the young people could handle in a show and tell session. I can provided craft information resources for teachers in advance so that the pupils had the opportunity to learn some of the craft skills used in the early medieval period. These activities used readily available materials and included such things as shield making, bead making and board games.
