Beauty

Do you need to know the name of beauty to recognise it?

One reply on “Beauty”

Can the abstract be beautiful? We look for patterns, order, meaning; but in a way that leapfrogs the verbal. We see a Rothko and say “beautiful” but this is a raw, visceral beauty that leads down a different avenue from the nice. The colours are beautiful but the intention is not to pander to the whimsy of other mortals. The beauty is fearsome, it requires a depth of response that is not always comfortable but has its own rewards. One reward could be a greater understanding of human suffering and we could offer this awareness to God as an act of worship.
